ROSACEA
ABOUT ROSACEA
Rosacea is a chronic disease that affects the skin and occasionally the eyes. It is characterized by redness, pimples, and in advanced stages, thickened skin. Rosacea usually affects the face. Other parts of the upper body are only rarely involved.
Rosacea most often affects adults between the ages of 30 to 60, and is more common in women. Although rosacea can develop in people of any skin colour, it tends to occur most frequently and is most apparent in people with fair skin.
There are several symptoms and conditions associated with rosacea. These include frequent flushing, vascular rosacea, inflammatory rosacea, and several other conditions involving the skin, eyes, and nose.
Frequent flushing of the center of the face - which may include the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin - occurs in the earliest stage of rosacea. The flushing often is accompanied by a burning sensation, particularly when creams or cosmetics are applied to the face. Sometimes the face is slightly swollen.
A condition called vascular rosacea causes persistent flushing and redness. Blood vessels under the skin of the face may enlarge and become obvious. This is called telangiectasia . The affected skin may be swollen slightly with a warm sensation.
A condition called inflammatory rosacea causes persistent redness and papules (pink bumps) and pustules (bumps containing pus) on the skin. Eye inflammation and sensitivity as well as telangiectasia also may occur.
In the most advanced stage of rosacea, the skin becomes more deeply reddened and inflammation of the eyes is more apparent. Numerous telangiectases are often present, and nodules in the skin may become painful. A condition called rhinophyma may also develop, usually in men. Rhinophyma is characterized by an enlarged, bulbous, and red nose resulting from enlargement of the sebaceous (oil-producing) glands beneath the surface of the skin on the nose.
The exact cause of Rosacea is unknown, but some people may inherit a tendency to develop the disorder. People who blush frequently may be more likely to develop rosacea. Some researchers believe that rosacea is a disorder where blood vessels dilate too easily, resulting in flushing and redness.
Factors that may cause rosacea to flare up may include: heat , strenuous exercise, sunlight, wind, very cold temperatures, hot or spicy foods and drinks, alcohol, menopause, emotional stress, and long-term use of steroid creams on the face.
ROSACEA TREATMENT
Many treatments have been used in different combinations for the control and treatment of rosacea. These include long-term topical antibiotics, oral antibiotics, and other topical creams. In some cases, steroids are used as a last resort. In most circumstances, these treatments are unsuccessful or have undesirable side-effects.
MD Cosmedical Solutions Clinics offer a specialised treatment protocol for the effective treatment of rosacea. Since the introduction of the Aesthetic Pulsed Light (APL) technology, rosacea of all stages and severities has been treated successfully. Patients have shown excellent improvements of their rosacea within the range of 75 - 95 Along with the rosacea improvements, there is also the benefits of excellent skin rejuvenation.

ACNE
ABOUT ACNE
Acne is a common condition caused by inflammation of oil-producing sebaceous glands. Acne usually begins between the ages of ten and thirteen, and persists for five to ten years. Acne breakouts are most common on the face, but they can also occur on the back, shoulders, neck, chest, scalp, upper arms and legs.
Young men and women get acne in equal numbers. Younger males are more prone to severe, longer-lasting forms of the skin condition. Many women suffer from hormonal acne — their outbreaks are tied to the hormonal changes related to their menstrual cycle. While hormonal acne typically starts between the ages of 20-25, it can strike teenagers as well. Hormonal acne is sometimes persistent in women in their 30s.
In adolescents, acne breakouts are related to the natural release of androgen hormones, which occur during puberty. Acne can also be caused by the use of harmful, body-building steroid drugs. Humidity and perspiration can also contribute to breakouts. Contrary to earlier belief, acne is not affected by diet or poor hygiene. In fact, over-washing can make an acne flare-up harder to control.
Even though teenagers tend to call any form of a breakout a zit, acne has more than one symptom. A build-up of P. acnes bacteria can cause blackheads and whiteheads; pimples (pustules); and nodules and cysts.
When left untreated, or when picked at, acne lesions can lead to permanent scarring. Acne and scarring, and their related inconveniences, commonly cause embarrassment and depression.
ACNE TREATMENT
Conventional acne treatments include various face washes, topical creams and ointments, oral antibiotics, hormonal treatments (eg Diane 35 ED), and Roaccutane. These treatments are commonly ineffective or have unacceptable side-effects.
Modern medical technology has diverted acne treatments into a new direction. Acne can now be treated with extremely impressive results without discomfort, pain, or any side-effects.
Aesthetic Pulsed Light (APL) technology utilises a high-intensity (400-420nm wavelength) light that penetrates the affected skin to reach the P. Acnes bacteria. This unique spectrum of light triggers the proliferation of endogenic porphyrins, which attack and destroy the P. Acnes bacteria within the skin. This action results in a significant decrease in the acne forming bacteria.
The state-of-the-art APL technology not only destroys acne bacteria, but also repairs the acne damaged skin. This is achieved by the stimulation of collagen and elastin production to repair acne scarring and to rejuvenate the skin. Furthermore, the APL effectively reduces blemishes and pigmentation that may be associated with the acne damaged skin.
