Laser Liposuction

FAQ

FAQ

Laser liposuction a minimally invasive form of aesthetic surgery designed to remove excess body fat. It involves the use of a laser to rapidly dissolve excess fat in target areas such as the thighs, abdomen, arms, neck and parts of the face, using a minor “keyhole” surgical procedure.

Fotona's laser liposuction lipolysis procedure does not require the use of a general anesthetic. A very fine laser fiber is inserted into the treatment area, where the laser light causes swelling and rupture of adipocytes. When the fat is melted, it can either be absorbed by the body or removed by the physician.

Simultaneously, the laser also tightens the surrounding skin to prevent it from sagging after the removal of unwanted fat. In fact, the same laser can be used for skin tightening, tone and textural improvements elsewhere on the body.

Laser Liposuction specific advantages over traditional liposuction include :

1. Minimally invasive procedure with only micro-incisions

2. No general anaesthetic & performed under tumescent localised anaesthetic

3. Faster & more effective treatment times

4. More effective & smoother results

5. Reduced swelling, bleeding, bruising and downtime

6. Additive skin tightening as an adjunct to the laser lipolysis

Excellent results begin to appear immediately during the laser liposuction treatment, and continue to improve with time as the swelling subsides and the laser assisted skin tightening progresses.

Laser Liposuction is considered to be permanent when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Areas that have liposuction performed will not recur.

Laser Liposuction has been medically proven as a safe and highly effective treatment for removing fatty bulges & sculpting the body. The treatment is highly successful, and the amount of fat that will be removed is decided upon during consultation prior to the procedure.

PRE TREATMENT ADVICE

It is advisable to avoid taking aspirin or other NSAIDs (arthritis medication) for at least 7 days before the Laser liposuction treatment. If you are taking aspirin or NSAID’s for a medical reason, please advise us and other measures may be taken. It is also suggested that patients begin taking Arnica tablets for one week leading up to the procedure, and continue for several days after the procedure. These are simple measures to reduce any chances of bleeding or bruising which may occur.

This procedure is contraindicated in patients taking warfarin. It is also contraindicated in pregnant or breast-feeding ladies.

Please notify the doctor if you have any significant medical history (e.g mechanical heart valve or any bleeding disorders), or any allergies, especially to local anaesthetics or any antibiotics.

POST TREATMENT ADVICE

Up to 3-5 days after a laser liposuction procedure, mild bruising, redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area may occur. There may also be some mild oozing from the tiny entry incision sites.  This is a normal response and is no reason for concern.

After your Laser Liposuction treatment please ensure the following:

1. Keep the entry incision sites clean.

2. Take your prophylactic antibiotics that were prescribed for you. It is also recommended that you continue taking Arnica tablets if you have residual bruising.

3. Gentle exercise is recommended for the following 2 weeks (e.g. walking or treadmill). No vigorous exercise for the 1st 3 days.

4. Do not wear any tight jeans if the thighs or ankles are treated.

5. Do wear the recommended trunk garment if the abdomen was treated.

6. Increase fluid intake for the first few days.

7. Maintain a good fluid intake. It is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes regular exercise and a low fat diet. This will assist in achieving and maintaining the best results.

8. The following treatments are recommended following the Laser Liposuction treatments:

Lipomedix Contour is highly recommended to assist with lymphatic drainage of fluid and waste products which are a result of the treatment process. This will hasten recovery and further improve results.

Thermage CPT Radiofrequency is a very valuable adjunct treatment to help the stimulation of collagen production in the skin, and hence further assist the laser lipolysis to tighten the skin.
